I went to the V&A exhibition, Fashion V Sport. It is based in London, It was quite disappointing as it was really small, and some of the garments were very strange. I think I was disappointed because I went and saw the couture exhibition a year or so before and I was expecting it to be as amazing as that.
I didn't really enjoy it that much the Fashion V Sport exhibition, The only garment that really stood out to me was the one below, Its very bright and eye catching, it had a lot of detail to it, bead work, boning, it was very fitted. I like the fact that the designer created a normal style dress/ballet outfit and put it on top of sportswear. It made the garment look really unusual and interesting.
I am enjoying this project, I have chosen to do sailing. I’ve chosen sailing as I have been doing it around 14 years. I have done lots of research into nautical and normal sailing wear.
As part of the project you have to choose a brand for your work, as Puma has already signed up with a sailing company I have chosen Reebok, as they don't have any sailing clothing. The approach I need to take is incorporating sailing wear as fashion wear, so that it could be worn for both. I have a good range of material samples, and I am currently looking into neoprene and breathable fabrics.
I got my fabric samples by emailing a lot of sailing companies and asking them to send samples onto me, it’s really good having some contacts in sailing, because I got a lot of free samples.
